William “Bill” H. Elwood, 84, of Decatur, IL passed away at 1:45 p.m., Saturday, February 25, 2012, peacefully at home with his family by his side.

Bill was born September 25, 1927, in Decatur, the son of Daniel H. and Pearl (Kiick) Elwood.  He attended St. Teresa High School and went on to graduate from Decatur High School in 1945.  He served in the U.S. Navy Reserves before attending the Missouri School of Mines (University of Missouri) at Rolla, MO. There he graduated with an honors degree in Civil Engineering in 1951.  For most of his career Bill was employed as an Environmental Engineer with Monsanto in St. Louis, MO.

Bill married Florence E. Koslofski of Decatur, IL in 1951.   Upon his retirement from Monsanto in 1985, he and Florence returned to Decatur.

Bill is survived by his wife and four children, sons: David (Audrey) Elwood of Enfield, IL, Thomas (Patti) Elwood of Columbia, MO, and Robert (Anne) Elwood of Yorkville, IL; daughter: Emily (Jack) Yale of St. Louis, MO.  Bill also leaves behind six grandchildren and three step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved son: William Craig Elwood. Bill’s family will always remember him for his intelligence, guidance, and for being a loving, caring husband and father.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 2, 2012, at Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to services at the funeral home.  Pastor John Laux will officiate.  Burial will be at Fairlawn Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the International Multiple Myleoma Cancer Foundation, www.myleoma.org.  Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.dawson-wikoff.com.

The Elwood family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Benjamin Esparez, Dr. Gregory Totel, Pastor John Laux and the nurses of DMH Hospice Care for all their compassionate care.
